History

Dec.1974 Kazuyoshi Kimura, the current President & CEO, establishes Shelter Home Co., Ltd. with the capital of eight million five hundred thousand yen.
Jun.1979 KES prototype is patented. (It is the first time in the world that a joinery hardware construction method is patented).
Apr.1987 Kazuyoshi Kimura wins Tacoma City honorary citizenship prize.
Mar.1991 KES system is patented in the U.S. and Canada.
Sep.1993 Tokyo Branch Office is established.
Jan.1994 KES Pre-cut Timber Factory is established.
May.1995 KES system is patented.
Apr.1997 Shelter Home Co., Ltd. is renamed as Shelter Co., Ltd., and the new Headquarter Offices are built in Yamagata City.
Jul.1999 Four churches and two houses are built in the U.S. using the KES system.
Sep.1999 Shelter Students Architectural Design Competition is created and held for the first time. In 2011, this competition is renamed as Shelter International Architectural Design Competition for Students.
Aug.2009 Fire-proof exposed structural wooden member is patented.
Mar.2011 We support the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake with Shigeru Ban, a Japanese architect, and Tohoku University of Art And Design. (setting of the partition system to shelter)
Aug.2012 The Minna no Ie (Home-for-All Project) is built using the KES system in Rikuzen Takata, Iwate Prefecture, and is awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale International Architectural Design Exhibition
Jun.2013 COOL WOOD (one hour fire-proof structure specifications) is accredited by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Nov.2014 COOL WOOD (two hours fire-proof structure specifications, column and beam) is accredited by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Dec.2014 COOL WOOD (two hours fire-proof structure specifications, wall) is accredited by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
